Do At-Home Microcurrent Devices Really Work?
We listened to experts: the verdict is in!
Although at-home microcurrent devices have only recently begun making their waves in the beauty industry, microcurrent therapy has actually been around for several years as a way to achieve a natural lift.
Typically, however, the microcurrent machines used during professional treatments are much larger and only available at professional offices. They also usually have a higher current than the at-home devices. This begs the question: do they actually work?
We researched what top dermatologists have to say about at-home microcurrent devices, and the verdict is in!
What are the benefits of microcurrent?
"Microcurrent facials can help to lift and tighten the muscles in the area and stimulate collagen and elastin, helping your skin look smoother, brighter, and more rejuvenated," says Kaiser.
It's great for women like my age," Mari said. "Where you're starting to maybe get some jowling activity on the lower face. It's great for the neck, great for around the eye area. It's also a good anti-aging treatment for people who might be reluctant to try more invasive options, like Botox or fillers. "
Do at-home microcurrent devices really work?
"Let's take it back to the exercise comparison," says Kaiser. "Even if you're seeing a trainer once a week, you're still going to have to do some workouts on your own to see results. This is the same idea."
The Verdict: At-Home Devices Are Aesthetician Approved!
According to the experts, at-home Microcurrent devices do work, and they can deliver some incredible results that rival professional treatments. There's a catch, however: your results largely depend on how consistent you are.
Because the at-home devices can't deliver the same strength of the current, this means that it's best to be using your device consistently in order to get long-lasting results.
As much as we'd all like a one-and-done fix for skin problems, it's simply too unrealistic to expect that from any device on the market. But with consistency and using the right tools, you can move a lot closer toward your skin goals than you might think without professional treatments.
